We Should Be True

We should be true to something.

But what does one do with faces?
Is it guile to peel the skin from an avocado?
The sweet meat will forever and always
Hold the hard stone.

Besides it’s all in technique¾
Delicately sipping water from a prickly pear.
The Gods would say, “Prickly pear is not
For drinking!
Find a cool spring bubbling from
The pure heart of the earth.”

But we are in a desert.
There are sidewinders under the sand.
Our water bottles are empty,
And even Aborigines cannot
Suck life from this hot earth.

The Gods reply:
“If one can stay alive a little longer,
The moon in the desert burns red like the
Sun in a forest fire, and one can
See the faces of God in the
Holocaust.

And in the rising, new flesh will come upon
Your faces, and you will feel the
Prints of the nails in His
Hands and side.”

Principle: President Kimball said, “Won’t the resurrection be wonderful!” There will come a time when all our sorrows will be done away, and this present vale of tears will seem but a dream walking.

Scripture: Doctrine and Covenants 34:5-12
